Sticker Size Guide 101: How to Find the Perfect Fit
You’ve got the perfect design. You’ve picked your material. Now comes the moment of truth: What size should it be?

Nothing kills the vibe of a great design like a sticker that’s too small to read or a label that overlaps itself on a jar. Getting the size right is what makes your branding look professional. In this sticker-size guide, we help you find the sticker size that’s just right.

How to Measure Like a Pro

Before you guess, grab a ruler. Taking thirty seconds to get an exact measurement ensures your design looks intentional and professional, rather than like an afterthought. Always measure the flat surface of the object, not the entire object.

For jars/bottles:
Adhesives love a smooth, flat home. Focus on the usable area where the surface doesn't curve away, which prevents your labels from flagging (when the edges lift up over time). Measure the flat face where the label will sit (don’t measure the curve).

For laptops/gear:

Think about the landscape. Measure the clear space around ports, hinges and logos to ensure your sticker has enough room to breathe.

Tip: Once you have your numbers, cut out a piece of scrap paper in that size and tape it to your object. This is the easiest way to preview the scale and make sure the text on your sticker is readable from a distance.

The Cheat Sheet for Common Objects

Here are the most popular sizes for everyday items. Feel free to play around and experiment with sizing to see what works best for your item.

Object
Recommended size
Why it works

Laptop

2” to 3”

Large enough to be seen, small enough to leave room for sticker bombing

Phones

1.5” to 2”

Fits on the back of most modern smartphones without covering the camera

Water bottles

2.5” to 3.5”

Scales well with the height of the bottle and will look great on oversized bottles, too

Hard hats

2”

This is the standard size for safety decals and union stickers

Lip balm tubes

2.125” x 1.5”

These are specifically designed to wrap perfectly around the tube

Wine bottles

4” x 3.5”

This is the classic large label size for vertical branding, but feel free to make it bigger

Business cards

3.5” x 2”

This is the size to go for if you want your sticker to double as a card

Understanding Shapes and Proportions

When you're in the StickerYou creator, you'll see dimensions in width x height.

Circles and squares:

These are easy. A 2x2 circle is 2 inches across in every direction.

Rectangles and ovals:

Consider orientation. Do you want it wide (landscape) or tall (portrait)?

Die-cut (custom shapes):

Our system measures the widest and tallest points of your design when you upload a custom shape. If you have a long, skinny lightning bolt design, a 3" size will mean 3" from tip to tip.

A Warning About Small Text

The smaller the sticker, the harder it is to read. If your design has a lot of fine print (like an ingredient list on a label or a long quote), we recommend keeping it above 2 inches.
• 0.5” to 1”: Best for simple logos, icons or envelope seals.
• 2”+: Best for text, detailed illustrations and contact info.

Don't let the math scare you. Whether you’re branding a fleet of trucks or just decorating your new tablet, we make the process easy. If you’re still unsure, you can always order a custom sample to see your size in person.
